At Waves Early Learning, we are always striving to deepen the way we engage with children’s learning and development. Recently, Miss Maddy and Miss Nikki attended professional development training on the 8 Ways of Learning, and this has inspired a fresh approach to our programming and documentation.

At Waves Early Learning, the safety, well-being, and holistic development of the children in our care have always been at the heart of every decision we make. This year, we implemented a significant change in how we document and share children’s learning journeys: we have moved away from third-party digital platforms and apps.

Embracing Slow Pedagogy at Waves Early Learning: Meaning, Depth, and Wellbeing At Waves Early Learning, we believe that how we do things, the pace, the rhythm, and the unhurried moments matter just as much as what children learn. Over the past year, we’ve been intentionally shifting towards slow pedagogy: giving children and educators the time they need to explore, engage deeply, and build meaningful connections. One of the key ways we’re putting this into practice is by not rotating resources and learning experiences weekly. This change has been transformational for children, for staff, and for our culture.

At Waves Early Learning, we see play as more than just fun; it’s the foundation for how children explore, question, and make sense of the world around them. One of the ways we bring this philosophy to life is through long-term play projects.

How the Outdoors Can Help Your Child Learn and Grow.  At Waves, we often talk about the importance of play in early childhood. But there’s one kind of play that holds something extra special: nature play. Whether it’s collecting sticks in the backyard, watching birds from a window, or jumping in puddles after the rain, nature has a unique way of helping children grow, explore, and thrive.

At Waves Early Learning, NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for celebration, reflection, and connection but it is never treated as a one-off event. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and perspectives are a vital part of Australia’s identity, and we are committed to embedding these respectfully and meaningfully throughout our everyday curriculum and practice.
